I found this forum while Googling for Mafia-related sites. Not exactly a lot of activity here, so I thought you all would be interested in playing Mafia on IRC in a channel (chatroom). Here are the rules we use: userpages.umbc.edu/~aleks1/mafiarules.htmlTo get on IRC, either go to chat.efnet.info and /join #mafiagame or download an IRC client like mIRC, and then /join #mafiagame.

Given that I've been appointed moderator, I'll try to get a game going.
I'll mod or play. Is there enough interest to try again?

There are 2 sides competing: "mafia" and "townspeople". The mafia know who each other are (and the townspeople don't), but the townspeople greatly outnumber the mafia.
There are 2 phases of the game: "day" and "night". Note these phases do not follow IRL days and nights; they are strictly within the game. During the "night", the mafia have a chance to discuss plans, etc. They also will agree on somebody to "kill", and send that choice in to the game moderator.
...thus ends the night. During day...
First thing that happens, moderator announces the person who the mafia killed and reveals their complete role (more on that later). Then, Everybody (including the mafia) publicly discusses and votes on somebody they want to kill. The townspeople are trying to kill off a mafia. The mafia are trying to make people think they are townspeople and get everyone to kill off a townsperson.
...and the cycle repeats. The mafia win if # of mafia is greater than or equal to # of townies.
The townies win if all mafia are dead.
That's the basics.
However, some townspeople are not just ordinary townspeople. Some of them have special actions during the "night" phase. For example, a common "special" townie is called a cop- during the night, they send in a name to the moderator, and the moderator will tell them whether that person is innocent or guilty.
...more of these roles will be explained when and if a game gets going.
Let me know if you have any questions.

That's right. Sign up for Yaw! [/guilt]
(for you newer people, Yaw was an old moderator who migrated to another, 100% mafia dedicated board. You want him back.)

Sign me up for the next one, whenever it is. I've played at parties before, but never online, so forgive my initial n00bishness.
