Since this is thread asks a lot of the questions we are often curious about when meeting an atheist for the first time, I thought I would bring this over to the board ... The original post can be found hereMaverick's QuestionsLet's stir up some discussion. I have a couple of questions for you to answer: 1. At what age did you become an atheist? 2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion? 3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs? (Added in later) 4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous?

I became atheist at age 13 and am a closet/closed atheist so my family members and friends dont know and plan to keep it that way for a long time.
I was raised and still forced to believe in roman catholic church.
Catholic school led me to eventually reject religious beliefs cause i realized how unlikely and stupid it is to believe in a god with not one bit of proof to support its existence.
I found out about atheist anonymous thanks to Gin from about christianity chat.

1. I was in eleventh grade when I began considering the ideas of atheism. But I didn't really consider myself to be REALLY an atheist until maybe 3 years ago. I thought I was, and maybe I was, but it wasn't for a good reason. I'll explain later.
2. Baptised Lutheran but that's about as far as it went. My parents never pushed religion on me. I chose to go to church about when I was 12 because I had a lot of religious friends. I outgrew that quickly. Then I went to a Catholic University but that has nothing to do with it. Just lots of religious exposure.
3. The death of a friend. That happened in 11th grade and I rejected any god for doing that to my friend. But the fact is that I couldn't have been an atheist then... not really. I just was one out of anger and frustration. In college, I had a great class called Faith And Atheism, and although I was practically an atheist going in, I was full fledged coming out. Now I really consider myself to be one. And thre isn't one thing that makes me not believe... not the injustice of the world or the death of my friend or anything... I just simply don't believe. Even if I try... it's just too ridiculous to me, and I can't.
4. Just stumbled across it somehow.

Again, welcome to the board, Danielle, well the new one this time ...
Danielle I saw a sign today that said, "Sometimes a stumble will prevent a fall." I'm not sure if that is absolutely relevant in this case, but you comment reminded me of the sign & tripped (no pun intended) something in my mind ...

1. At what age did you become an atheist? Ans:I was 19 when I became an atheist.
2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion? Ans: I was born into a muslim family who indoctrinated me into Islam.
3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs? Ans: Lack of evidence or proof for the existence of any gods and lack of any purpose to assume any god's existing as an ontological axiom without any evidence or proof.
Hope that's enough for a start.

I became atheist at the tender age of seven I was baptised into the greek athoudox church before my first birthday Ha yes the story of the great flood you know the one noah and the ark and the rainbow thingy? i asked my dad if the story was true he read the story and gave me a bible and an encyclopedia telling me to choose what i thought was right. Issac Newton made more sence to me than a covernant with an obnipotant being . I found out about atheist anonymous thanks to my truly loveley soul mate and the sexy auntie social. modified to fix the quote flags ~AuntieSocial

I became a full fledged atheist at about 20, during my Randroid phase. It lasted about a year. I was indoctrinated in school into atheism. My deconversion eventually was into agnosticism and later theism. I am happy with my religious beliefs. Admittedly, they are not the run of the mill sorta thing...

1. The process of becoming athiest began for me at age 16.
2. Pentecostal Fundamentalist (BLECHHH!!), is the type of theism I was raised in.
3. Three things led me to eventually reject ALL religion and believe there is NO god:
A. The answers religion provides for life's issues/problems are 100% non-sensical, and do not even address the real issues.
B. I have known too many religious people in my life, who believe they get it, because their religion tells them they get it. When I would spend any length of time with people like this, it became painfully obvious, not only did they not get it with respect to their religion, they didn get it in other aspects of their lives either, insofar as how they live, how they work, how they interact with people, in their relationships, etc. I could only conclude that they stopped looking for the answers that would lead them to get it, once they fell for the illusion of their superstitions, I mean religions.
C. Religion, particularly Christianity, is so thoroughly, completely and absolutely ridiculous, that there is no way possible it could be valid. The same applies to the Bible. I can not, for the life of me, figure out why anyone could possibly fall for it.
4. I found this place via Google, where else?
