Hahaha. My ex would say "I KNOW you really believe in God, you just feel let down by him." Heh. That reminds me of a nice lady I work with, when I told her that I don`t believe in god, she replied, "thats OK, he believes in you"

1. At what age did you become an atheist? Im not...Im a Christian and have been since technically since 16. 2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion? I was first Catholic, switched to Presbitarian, then to Baptist which is where i currently am. 3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs? Does not Apply, what lead me to believe was my own desire to learn and understand more. 4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous? Searching online, because I am writing a paper in Philosophy which i will later introduce to the boards to get everyones opinions i need help on it

Very good question actually, I was a Catholic very young in my life like i mean 6, mom and dad pulled us out of the church i never went back, the Presbiterian i had a friend going there, however i did not really feel welcome there, like the members were just kinda Blah, so then i had a few friends that attended a Baptist church so i tried there... and i found what i enjoyed, Great sermans, nice people and i love the praise and worship, So it was mainly just finding a church i liked, it just happened to be 3 different religions, to me religion has never been a big deal, i kinda feel we are at church for one reason...being God... and the little differences in each group are arbitrary. So at 6 i left the catholic church, i went to the Presbitary i think like four times and really found my home at the Baptist church were i basically become a Christian, dedicated my life to Jesus. Sorry for the non clarity in my original post. Basically i was just tring to find a home. Does that answer your question? Since this is IceBreakers a little bit more about myself: Im a CS (computer science) major currently attending Old Dominion University in Norfolk VA. My home town is 4 1/2 hours away in Roanoke Va, beautiful mountains good place to visit if you like the fall season, very beautiful. Im 18 and play alot of video games and paintball. I enjoy Halo for PC if anyone is interested in playing a game. I love debates which is part of the reason im here, just to see the oposing side of things and see arguements from a whole host of different people. I think this is a great sight, and look forward to debating more Thanks

1. I probably have been always, or I grew out of it with Santa Claus (actually I'm still not sure about Santa. I'll say I'm a Santa Claus Agnostic). But I really started thinking about it in grade 10 or 11 or so. That's when I knew for sure. 2. My family's not particularly religious, but I was baptized Lutheran. 3. Again I don't think I ever had a true belief. I used to say that I just thought all that stuff was too rediculous to believe, that it was scientifically unprovable etc. That's true, but I really think I don't believe because I don't like the idea of a supreme being who decides our fate for us. Sounds like a dictatorship to me. 4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous? GOOGLE. I should buy shares, but I'm too cheap. Hugs Jen

Hi all!
1. At what age did you become an atheist? I don't remember ever having faith in the religion that my Mom exposed me to, but it took me a while to have the confidence in my beliefs to take a stand. I think it was in Jr High that I remember debating with my science teachers whether or not someone of scientific bent could also be religious.
2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion? My Mother attended an Episcopal church, and I was baptized there when I was around 9.
3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs? I can't say I ever bought in to it. I just eventually realized I didn't have to do it just to please my Mom. As I thought more about it and gained some confidence in my ability to form my own world views, it's just something I realized didn't fit, for a variety of reasons. Mostly I think my world view is a very rational one, and logic doesn't seem to have a place in Christianity. I found myself grappling with the inconsistencies, and religion just kept losing water.
For instance, when I considered the implications of the "all knowing" God. If God is omniscient, how can He change? The old testament shows one version of God, yet the coming of Jesus apparently led Him to change the way he felt about and/or treated humans. If He's omniscient, wouldn't He have known what was going to happen all along? Same thing can be said of the flood, after which He was remorseful and promised to never again wipe out the Earth. If He knows all, he should be incapable of learning (because there's nothing He doesn't already know) and therefore incapable of change.
4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous? I was searching online (via Google) for references to the origin of the Christian fish symbol. My wife is a Christian and decorated her car with a big fish and three little fish for our kids (I'm debating adding a "Darwin fish" to the cluster to represent myself). But she put them on "backwards" to the orientation you usually see them in (with the "tail" on the right). I was trying to find some reference that would claim whether or not inverting the fish made it blasphemous or something. Google picked up one of the threads here where Auntie talked about the pre-Christian origins of the symbol, and I got sucked into the boards.

1. At what age did you become an atheist?
I was always a doubter of religion, but I officially went back to atheism around age 19--about the same time I lost my virginity.
2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion?
I was raised literally in the Calvary Bible Church, an offshoot/protest group from the Presbytery. I think they didn't like the robes the pastor wore, and wanted to be much more insane.
3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs?
I was encouraged to reject the religious teachings of my church from the very beginning, by my parents (yeah, you explain it to me), who put me in the church school in the first place. It was my investigation of scientific skepticism that led me to say "I don't believe in God" to myself.
(Added in later) 4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous?
I talked to the owner on Paltalk.

I don't think I ever believed in God. I remember feeling like a hypocrite singing hymns and saying grace in preschool. I was never indoctrinated effectively, I suppose. My dad is pretty cynical about religion and varies between agnosticism and atheism. My mum was discouraged from teaching us her religion and I'm glad about that!
Kinda moot, as explained above.
Again, moot, but I must add that my atheism is reaffirmed quite regularly. Just looking at the world about me, in all its beauty and horror, girds my loins against the idea of an all-powerful being. If there is a deity, he/she has surely lost control!
Surfed here one day and found my way back after some time.

1..No specific age... 2..I have been to churches over the years and on the whole the people who attend are nice...but misguided. 3..Many many things...But one major factor was that as I became a mature adult,I noted that all religion has a negative effect on society. Also I found that pastors seemed to revel in the adulation their stirring but flawed sermons produced in the congregation(aptly named a flock) 4..just cruising around the internet

okay, as the newbie here:
1. At what age did you become an atheist? A: i dunno. 10 or so i guess, at least, tentatively at that age. more confirmed in my 20s.... then even moreso wehn i turned 30. i see a progression developing here -- by the time i'm 60 i will be SuperAtheist or something.... or maybe just more stuck in my ways...
2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion? A. Roman Catholic (Irish)
3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs? A. well, i always thought that church was dull and nothing anyone said made any sense, but when i was 10 Carl Sagan's _Cosmos_ was on TV, and i started reading his stuff, and found about atheism through him.... and now i'm here.
4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous? A. google.
