Im a Christian, I was a hard core junky and alcoholic. 4 years ago I was hopelessly trying to kick, I prayed to a God that I had always figured was there but was sure He detested me, I asked for Him to do for me what I couldnt do for myself. and through a very wild set events , I ended up getting clean and sober. I studied mormonism, Catholisism , Jehovaswitness and Islam and im a Baptist. now I teach Sundayschool and hope to "indoctrinate' my students so that they might not go through the same hell I went through. google search looking for some challenging conversation. So it had nothing to do with you wanting to change?

So it had nothing to do with you wanting to change? actualy ist difficult to explane in a few lines( didnt want to bore you) when I first prayed out of total anguish, yes I wanted something to change, but I thought getting clean would be impossible. my actual first prayer was just "thy will be done" the thoughts that went with it were basicly, Hey God Im!@#$% and hopeles and misserable, Im not able to change anything and Im NOT going to stop slamming dope, but if you want whats left of my life, you have my concent to to try and help me. I have compaired it to being in a car that is out of control and desiding that God can drive and letting go of the wheel. after rolling over five times, finding myself driving down the road in control with barly a scratch on the car. I loved slammin dope, and was sure I always would. now the very idea frightens me and I love my life.

But you had already made wish to want to change. Anyone will tell you in recovery, besides admitting you have a problem, that is the biggest step.

So you had nothing to do with your change? I'm just saying you shouldn't underestimate your contribution to your recovery.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm glad you kicked the habit by whatever means. I just think you should give yourself the credit you deserve.

1. I actually consider myself to be more agnostic than anything but I was pretty young when I started to consider it -- (11 maybe?) Obviously at that age, when you've believed other things, the thought of there being no God is terrifying. But as soon as I worked past the fear, I could see things more rationally. 2. My family is/was Presbyterian (Christian). They were never very devout (sp?) though. 3. Who knows. Probably millions of things but I'll throw the creationists a bone and blame it on the Discovery Channel. 4.I was looking for fashion sites--oddly enough. I googled "proboards fashion" I think.

Since this is thread asks a lot of the questions we are often curious about when meeting an atheist for the first time, I thought I would bring this over to the board ... The original post can be found hereMaverick's QuestionsLet's stir up some discussion. I have a couple of questions for you to answer: 1. At what age did you become an atheist? 2. What flavor of religion were you indoctrinated to believe in prior to your deconversion? 3. What led you to eventually reject your religious beliefs? (Added in later) 4. Where did you find out about Atheists Anonymous? I started doubting at age 7. Evolved into an atheist around 9 or 10. I was born a Methodist, to an agnostic father and questioning, Methodist mother. Stopped church at 8 years of age. The absurdity, hypocritical believers, scientific revelations throughout my life. I found this site in an internet search.

Well I started doubting religion when I was 16.
Before I became atheist I was a Lutheran Protestant but I never really went to church after I was 5 years old.
I ended up rejecting my religious beliefs because when I started to look at all of the stories and claims made in the bible in depth and they didn't make any sense at all. The bible just ended up looking like a book of fairy tales to me.
I found this site the same way I find everything else google.
