My brothers, It seems to me, when I look around this forum, that you all dislike christians. But what about Jesus Christ? do you have any problems with him? Ghandi, one of the greatest men ever to have lived, once said "I like your Christ, but not your Christians. They are not like your Christ". Do you share this view? There is no doubt that the Christ described in the Bible wether you believe or not, was a great great man. You people will moan when he is shown on Television, when we see his life in film. But he is a fantastic role model for people. He preached love between brothers and mankind, he did not hate others. If we have more role models like Jesus Christ in the media, we will have less crime and better citizens. Thats a fact, and I challange any one of you who shakes their head at that comment. And when we celebrate the life of Jesus at Christmas and Easter, you should celebrate the life of a great man. Do not moan, because whats the point?

Yeah, fine. Sounds like he was a great guy.
Pete Townshend was a great guy until they found child porn on his computer.
Also, about Jesus being a great role model for citizens. People are flawed and presenting them with a flawless icon to try and imitate 24/7 is a recipe for disaster. Christians still have a hard time getting his message correct after all this time. How long do you think it would it take the non-religious people if they started now?
Maybe for a while it would be alright. But people like him these days usually get shot while delivering a speech or riding in a car.
Then the riots would come.

Christ, if you believe he ever actually existed as one person, is attributed to having said in Matthew 10:35 - "For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law."
He is certainly a role model for the much-hyped "dysfunctional family", but I wouldn't categorize him as a "perfect role model"

It seems to me, when I look around this forum, that you all dislike christians. By the way, you can "officially" no longer trust your own judgment. I am married to a Christian who I love with more devotion and intensity than anyone I have ever known.

It seems to me, when I look around this forum, that you all dislike christians. Wrong. My girlfriend is Catholic. I dislike those who make it their aim to make everyone believe as they do, those who want to legislate their belief and impose them upon others and those that rather stick to mythology than scientific, supported theories.

There is no doubt that the Christ described in the Bible wether you believe or not, was a great great man. The Christ described in the bible was a great great man?? Yes most great men would flood the world to show how powerfull he was when he was angry. Many great men would to the screwed up crap he did to Job just to prove a point. Maybe to be great you need to kill all the first born sons of egypt. Honestly in a lot of ways biblicly speaking god was really a creep.

Hello prydem1 first let me welcome you to the forum. Now that said you have picked a very interesting topic as your first. First of all I for one dont hate christians i dont belive in God and that is that. Frankly you guys can go your way and ill go mine as far as religon goes. I dont care if you guys worsip every day from sun up to sun down or take all your belivers and jump from a cliff proclaiming that you will go to eternal life. The prominint point is that I just dont care.
Now as for Jesus of nazareth (Spelling?) being a great man. Well that is an opinion after all. To communists Stalin was a Great Great man. To the Nazis Hitler was as well. And to use a more recent person I am very sure that ben laden is a very Great man to those who follow his teachings. The only thing that shows people as being Truely Great is how they are depicted in history and even at that stage it is still an opinion compleatly directive as to what side of the argument you happen to be on.
To you he may be a Great man, but you belive his Godlyness. Like judus says in jesus christ super star "if you strip away the myth from the man you will se where we all soon will be." Jesus if he did exist and all his teaching were by him alone (im giveing you the benifit of the doubt here) his being a great man would depend on the acceptance of his teachings. Please keep this in mind when makeing your judgements on other people. His teaching was much the same as confusious or budda and I would probably hold him in that light. He was a man who had an idea that was all. If you had an origioal philosophy or just the same if I did i could argue that we are both great men. I hope this has been insiteful.

Oh crap, you to eh? Fun stuff around x-mas. Just go into how X-mas is simply syncretic holiday and not specifically Christian. Puritans even outlawed Christmas for almost a decade because it was entertaining a heathen celebration.

Pete Townshend was a great guy until they found child porn on his computer. Jesus has child porn? My best friend and his family are Christians. They know I don't believe in a God. I still love 'em to death. On the other hand, there are some Christians that I would be happy to never see again. Religion should, IMHO, have nothing to do with friendships. It's a personal choice; it's kind of a live-and-let-live thing. The fact that some people are Christians has absolutely nothing to do with how much I like them.

Then I start to like them less.

I don't dislike Christians, unless they are among those who have never seen an episode of Star Trek yet claim to "Hate the show" (of course, you don't have to be Christian to do that).
Anyway, I guess good ol' Jeez might have been a cool guy, I never met him. Do you think if he were around today he would have watched Star Trek?

wow firstly have to say poeple that post stuff like this just like to argue and have no time for life.
Secondly I've never met a christian that hasn't done something wrong or they are currently doing unmoral acts. I have on the other hand met many atheists who obey the morals they give them self and those of society...so i rather look up to an atheist than a christian.....atehsit don't need to be forgiven no matter what.

Damn straight. At the end of the day, we answer to no one but ourselves. I'm not saying christians are without morals. I'm saying it's a lot easier to justify bad behavior if you've been told for years that you're bad by default and can use God as your personal behavior scapegoat. It's easy to take no responsibility for your actions when you can pass off the ramifications of those actions to a deity. That said, all people are capable of doing bad things, regardless of personal belief (or any other qualifier you may think of). If we could remove emotion from the equation, there'd be no good or bad. But emotion trumps reason, and here we are.
