The old Iboard will close tomorrow

After tomorrow, December 9th, our old message board will remain open for reference purposes only.

The message board transition period for cross-over registrations will end soon. Our old message board, provided by Iboardplus, will no longer be functional for posting after tomorrow evening. At that time, I will change the forum settings to disallow guests from being able to read the threads on the old board. Only previously registered members will be able to access these old threads and they must login to the old board to do so. I'd encourage our veteran members to re-post any valuable discussions previously hosted on our old message board.

Mav, if guests can't read the old board threads, it will be difficult to reference some of the longer threads, won't it? Just thinking with my fingers here ...

My incentive for not allowing guest access to the old board was to make sure that any old discussions that were re-posted here wouldn't remain split up in two different areas. However, I see your point (it would be quite cumbersome to sum up the longer conversations).

Here's what I will do: I will allow guests to access the old boards for viewing purposes only. I only ask that, when continuing threads here on the new board, that posters give a sufficient amount of information necessary for newbies to understand the main point of the previous conversation. If possible, I would like new posters to have enough background on the new board for them to be able to be able to put our previous threads within a general context.

But since I realize this may not always be possible, I'll let guests view our old board as well as our veteran members.

That sounds reasonable. We can try to sum up the key points (as best we can) and provide a link to the old thread for more indepth reading, if a person who is new to this board wishes to read further.

Thank you for making the transition to this message board. As our moderators and I both found out yesterday (when trying to access the old board), the move was a definite benefit to this community. The old Iboard's server was down for a time yesterday. But, thankfully, we don't have to deal with that anymore.
