BTW, the word agnsotic is a two or three thousand year old word, Huxley didn't make that word. It's had pretty much the same meaning for that entire time. The Gnostics were believers in Gnosticism, and the agnostics were non-believers. Gnostic means "knower" (so agnostic means non-knower) and in their minds they "knew" the ultimate truths necessary for living properly. In much the same way the Christians (who were formerly mostly Gnostics, before Christianity caught on) think they Know that their beliefs are "supreme truth" and they "know" that their way is "the right way." If you were ever a Christian who really beleieved the stuff, who swore up and down that it was true, then you know what I mean. Of course the gnostics didn't actually "know" much of anything, much like their Christian descendents, but they sure do mix up their beliefs with real knowledge.
