Hey... I had a brief PM convo with Maverick about starting a Survivor thread. WE decided it might not be smart yet to have that competing for mafia sign-ups, but it would really depend on what everyone else thinks. A question to everybody: Would you be willing to sign up for a Survivor game? How would you feel about the mafia forum becoming a "strategy games" in general forum?
thanks,

Could you explain how survivor is played, so we know what we are talking about. And i think wit hall the activity in mafia (which isn't much) that another game is not a good idea. Maybe the next game could be survivor instead of mafia and you could volunteer to mod it. But i think it is best to have one game at a time.

I concur with nonny; it's probably a good idea to hold off on another major activity until between Mafia games. I'd need to see the rules and premise, but anything called "survivor" is bound to be fun...

I agree with it becoming a strategy games forum. Survivor could be fun, provided we can get enough people. I do think people can handle more than one game at once, but don't think we have quite the number of active posters we'd need to pull it off yet. So it should probably go on the backburner for a while, but I think (and hope) we can do it in the near future.

Okay, thanks. Fair enough.
FYI- Survivor is a strategy game where the goal is (duh) to survive. Each "round" we will have a challenge; contest or trivia or something like that; and the winner will recieve "immunity". Then we will have a vote. Everybody PMs the mod with the name of the person they want to vote for. Person with the most votes is out of the game. The person who recieved immunity cannot be voted for. So it is a strategy game, you make alliances to all vote for one person so that they are out, you backstab alliances and anything can happen. If any of you have seen the show on CBS you will know what I am talking about.
AT the very end of the game, once there is only 2 remaining, previous people voted out will come back and vote for one of them to win.

How would this Survivor game be any different from our current Mafia games? It seems like the basic rules are the same but we call them by different names. Instead of lynching someone, we would vote them off. In each game, one can make alliances with other members and the role of the doctor provides immunity to one of the players.
The only difference I see is the panel of players deciding a winner at the end of the game. But, since Mafia mods have flexibility in creating rules for the their games, I don't see how this panel aspect couldn't be adapted into a Mafia game.
Is there something different about the Survivor game you are proposing pieisgood?

Looking at what people have done elsewhere, the main difference is in the use of challenges for rewards or immunity in Survivor. That is, there would be puzzles or strategy games in the Survivor game, and most strategizing would take place behind the scenes. On the other hand, Mafia is mostly "on-stage" strategizing. The other difference is that there can't be a jury deciding the winner in Mafia, because the jury members would be dead by that point.

Yes. Too dead to vote ;D
When it comes down to it, survivor is in fact lots different then mafia. Instead of accusing each other and rooting out scum, suddenly everyone is equally suspicios, there is no night. Nobody knows who each other voted for. It's a much different kind of strategy, I guess you'll have to trust me on that one.
Arutha-- the challenges aren't like that. They'll be a contest, not who answers a question first but who can answer the most right out of 25, for example. Activity should not be an issue.
