This is a quote from a conversation today in the chat room
I just thought you, mav, might like to know what the guests think of the site. This might not be in the right place though. Just a heads up.

But...but these are my university school colours! And it's the best university in Canada for technical subjects (computer science and engineering especially)! Bah!

Hmmm, I thought the best university in Canada had a blue colour palette Personally, I find the contrast between the gold and black/grey to be pleasing to the eye. Yes, it is on the dark side, but aesthetically, I think it works well.

I believe he was talking about the site not the message board.

Thanks for passing along the chatter's comments nonbeliever. And yes, this is the right place for these comments. When I decided to design the website with its current color scheme, I had two things in mind. First, I chose a darker background because darker colors are easier on my eyes. Secondly, I wanted to give the website at least a semi-unique look. I couldn't settle on another color, so black became the default background. When I get more time on my hands, I would like to re-design the website again with more attention to detail than I did the last time. I'm open to suggestions on things like color scheme and the guest chatter's point was valid, our current scheme may bring some atheist stereotypes to mind. When I do re-design the website again, do you think I should "lighten up" the color scheme? Any suggestions?

I htink lightening it up would be a good idea. Or maybe even more colors then just black, like have them play of each other. And your welcome for passing on the comment.

Any color preference? Or any other design ideas? I do plan to do a major re-design of the website when I have some extra time on my hands.
Also, if anyone wants to contribute to the design of the website in some way, contact me.

I just think to dark of colors and too light of ones give bad imperssions, maybe some nice nuetral colors? Maverick if you want any help with it just tell me

I began re-designing the website a few days ago. I've brightened up the color scheme so that it wouldn't seem like a bleak looking site. I've also increased the font size as a result of a comment someone made long ago about how the text was too small to read easily.
Are there any other suggestions I could take into account as I re-design the layout of Atheists Anonymous? I would appreciate any suggestions on content, organization, or design. I will try my best to take any suggestions made into account as I complete the new website.

Well I was thinking it would be cool to have a unique picture in the top margin. Maybe have a contest for the members to design something, I don't know something that would stand out in others minds. Just a thought

Thanks for the idea nonbeliever. The design I'm working on does not have a picture in the top left margin like the current website does. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be able to use other types of images.
I'll try to put together an image contest of some sort soon. If you have any ideas of how these images could be used, please let me know.

I actually like the white-on-black design. It's easier on the eyes than the other way around. I think the colours can be tinkered with, but I'd like to see a light-on-dark scheme.
And I agree about the logo contest. We should try to get something other than clipart.

Hey, I love the idea of a logo contest! It will give the graphically talented members a chance to shine. The runner up pics could be used in banners & such.

Please, please don't make the background white! My eyes would throttle me rather than burn like that. In my own opinion, dark is good, but I do agree that it may perpetuate stereotypes. However, I think we should stay on the darker side to go easy on the eyes.
The idea of a logo contest is great. It would give a personal touch to the site, and Auntie's idea about runner up designs is excellent.

Before I start constructing too many of the pages of the new design, I wanted to give all of you a sense of the new initial color scheme I went with. I'm still open to playing around with the color scheme so feel free to comment on it and make suggestions. Click here to view a picture of the new design. (Edit: Link fixed.) I agree that darker color scheme are easier on the eyes. But I don't want to perpetuate common stereotypes of atheism being negative either. I'm trying to find a balance between these two options. The current color scheme I am using does incorporate some white but the whiteness doesn't dominate the entire page. The side background color is a light gray. I am thinking of darkening the gray slightly so it will match the gray background of the message board. Any comments or suggestions?
