vertigo No it isn't about the origin of life necessarily, although the creationists get the point confused all the time. Evolution would still be a valid theory, even if we knew that our primordial ancestors just popped into existence magically. Evolution talks about what happens in living populations after there are things that can be considered living. It makes no assumptions about how those living populations came to exist in the first place.
When a person says that evolution does not take place they are saying that organsims do not evolve over time. They might think that they are saying that a "living" organism cannot arise from "nonliving" matter without the intervention of a "designer", but they are actually saying something that is quite different.

The origin of life is abiogenesis. Evolution deals with change in living organisms. The debate is a biological one, a geological one, a paleontological one, etc. Evolution is just focused on for the simple reason it proposes a naturalistic origin for our species, if that was taken away, most religious sects wouldn't have a problem with it...probably just the staunch biblical literalists.

As to the question of where all the Damn Water came from. the water was always there, the oceans an such.
reading the bible it does not simple say it rained a lot and that cause the floods it also says that the great basins of the deep were opened.
I am at a bit of a disadvantage, as i am running around with a Laptop so i cant really sit down and respond adiquatly.
but suffice to say, my problem is that is is taught as cannon.
Thank you all.

There is no where that water sufficient enough to "cover the tops of mountains" could have "always" been here. As to water spewing forth from great basins, even geologists would say that much water underground is an impossibility. What "basins"? How is it possible to store that massive amount of water in the thin crust of the earth?

This is nearly petty, but I can't help it....
Cannon is a mounted weapon that fires heavy projectiles. "Canon" is the world you're looking for, Epton.
A small gripe, but still, they're vastly different.

Epton I don't suppose that you are suggesting that science not be taught in schools. Nor do I think that you are suggesting that every crazy idea be taught as though it is scientific (i.e. flat earth theory, earth centered solar system). So how exactly is evolution taught as "canon"? Would you make the same assertion about the heliocentric model of the solar system?

So, where'd that water come from? What basins? Is this a loose variation on the ridiculous hydroplate "theory"? Or is it a mixture of that and the canopy "theory"?

Basins? Water was let go from basins under the ground. I’m I correct? Then the water somehow over came the effect of gravity to rise up and flood the earth. Then after the 60 days and nights gravity took over again and like all well behaved water it went back under ground. Do I have the correct? Can you not see how stupid that sounds?

I noticed this thread died pretty quick...I think some of our newer members might want to review this thread for informational purposes if they have any questions reagarding evolutionary theory.

I'm currently working (amid classes, work and honor society stuff) on adding to my evolution information. I'm trying to also streamline it like putting the natural selection stuff together to make it all flow better.
Hopefully I'll have the expanded and revised versions within a couple of months (gotta a lot of stuff to pick through and I'm usually pretty busy).
I also hope to expand what I can in the abiogenesis area as well as including a section on hominid evolution.
