What ever happened to the 'Ask an Athiest' section? I just noticed it wasn't here. Is there a reason for that?

When I re-created the sections here on the new board, I decided that an "Ask the Atheist" section was not needed. Back when we were still on our old Iboard, someone brought that section to my attention and pointed out that its purpose wasn't well defined. I orginally wanted that section to be a place where theists could ask atheists questions (instead of debating atheism vs. theism). But with the low number of theists we have, that section turned into another "General Discussion" section.

Really, Maverick? I actually found that the "ask an atheist" section was a really useful place and I was just thinking about asking where it went. You have a point, there aren't many theists to ask questions, but I found it was also a good outlet for atheists to ask questions to other atheists. I personally think that even if it doesn't get much theist involvement that it would make a good contribution to the forum.

I always thought it was to ask other atheists for advise on problems, i guess I'm just naive.

nonbeliever, you weren't naive at all. I just was not clear on the purpose of that section on the old board. Eventually, that section (on the Iboard) turned into a place where atheists asked other atheists for advice. But I thought, since this is an atheist message board anyway, that we could just do that in the "General Discussion" section. Griffey's Closet vs. Friendship thread is a good example of a kind of thread that probably would fit in the old "Ask an Atheist" section. I don't see any reason why we should seperate these kinds of threads into a special section but if any of you have further suggestions, I am willing to listen to them.

I think I'm in agreement with Maverick. I guess, if we start getting a lot of theist activity and there are threads that meet the more clearly defined criteria for the "Ask an Atheist" section, one could be created and the relevant threads could be flung over there.
