While I think it worthwhile to have the two news sections, I'm beginning to think that the atheist one is ill-defined. That is, reading through the articles in the atheist folder, I'm not sure if all of them properly belong in there. (The one about a few extremist Christians crashing and harrassing a Jewish psychic seems questionable, for example.) Could we get a more precise definition of what belongs in that section? Is it specifically atheist-related stuff? Does it include First Amendment issues in general? Anything related to religion?

I put that one in there because it deals with intolerance of other faiths/belief structures ... though whether Maverick archives it is another story ...plus, it shows that the intolerance of the fundamentalist type of mind-set is surfacing in news media world-wide.
As a side note, that article was included in the Atheist Law Center, Inc's e-mail 'briefing', as they call their news service.

I wasn't intending to criticize your news-gathering, AuntieSocial -- you've been doing an excellent job. It was more a point that without having defined guidelines as to what goes where, I was having trouble figuring out where to put articles. We can't just go by the Atheist Law Center briefings, because everyone doesn't receive them. We need our own criteria.

I didn't take your post as being a criticism ... I only replied to provide insight into my criterium for posting that particular article in the Atheist News vs. the News & Politics sections. The side note was just that, a side note ... (to show that another Atheist News Service felt the same as I did)
The way I've been looking at it ...
if it has to do with: [/li][li] opression of religious rights (or complaints thereof), [/li][li] religious organisations discriminatiion of other based on gender, race or sexual orientation, [/li][li] religious intolerance, [/li][li] government(s) promoting or faith, [/li][li] articles by or about atheists dealing with religion or atheism, [/li][li] Commentaries/Op-Ed pieces about the above I've been including it in the archive
if it has to do with: [/li][li] an upcoming rally/demonstration [/li][li] a past demonstration already posted in the Activism section I've been ear-marking those for the Activism thread (the news articles in the same thread as the original notice). The news article could also be posted in the News Archieve
anything else worth discussing goes in the other News Forum.
Of course, that's just been my criteria. If there is something that should be posted elsewhere, or something that should be added to the above, I'm open for suggestions.
