I'm currently designing a webpage for school and I cannot for the life of me remember how to make a seperate link section... Basically I want a divider between the links and the information on my page, all I'm using is simple HTML and its kickin' my butt. Grr, I HATE popups! They've screwed up my friggin' site twice! Can they be shot? No, I suppose not... Anyways, I'm in dire need of HTML help... Like I said, if anyone knows anyone about HTML PLEASE contact me, preferably before this weekend... (11-29-03)

If you just want a horizontal line, insert this <hr> between the text you want to seperate. It will look sort of like this:
It will be longer though. This board's code limits the length of horizontal lines.

Mav, next question ... how do you make the links open in a seperate page? I finally got around to creating a webpage, and well, I used a site builder ... and I figured out how to do links (I'm impressed with myself), but I don't want all of them redirecting the page the viewer is on (i.e. If the link is to an external site, I don't want it taking the viewer off of my site! How ego-centric of me, eh? Actually, I have a ProBoards tutorial there and I want the viewer to be able to link to our board and keep the tutorial open at the same time ...)

In HTML, your regular link will look like this:
<a href="http://www.urlhere.com">Link</a>
Add target="_blank" in the line of HTML to open the link in a new window:
<a href="http://www.urlhere.com" target="_blank">Link</a>
AuntieSocial, what is the address to your tutorial?

I want a line going vertical seperating... So would that be vr or vt? And ty for the help, although I'm still up sh*t creek without a paddle here... *le sigh* So, great place you have here maverick... Really like it... I just typed in the words 'atheist anonymous' as a joke, and was fairly impressed with what I found...

MaverickHmmm, I do recall someone telling me once that he wanted members to get used to checking for information in the appropriate places ... (I posted the link in the Forum & Website Support thread I created with tips to posting ...) I'll put it here too ... BUT, please note that I'm still learning how to do this webpage stuff ... so the screenshots & such suck ... I'm working on getting better images (now that I know a bit more of what I'm doing ...). Click on the "MBoard Tips" button on the left ...

Actually, I don't believe there is a code for a vertical line, however, you can create a table with two cells, one for links, one for content. Here is something I ripped off my own site, changed around a little.
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td width="20%">LINKS TEXT</td> <td width="80%" height="312>CONTENT TEXT</td> </tr> </table>
You can fiddle with the "border" attribute until it looks like a line between the two cells or you can put actual tabs or spaces in the text so they are more seperate. Also you can play with the cell (<td>) percentages until they are what you like them to. I hope this was helpful, kaeis! ;D

I seem to be reviving some really old threads these days ... but better to use the existing one than start a fresh one ...
I have a couple of questions ... one should be easy to accomplish, the other may be way too complicated (if it's even possible at all)
Question 1 How do I make it possible for people to download files from my website (i.e., I have some .pdf files, pamphlets, atheist tracts, etc, that I would like to make available (for either viewing on their screen or saving to their own computer)
Question 2 This is a really tough one, and I don't know if it can be done at all.
I have a spreadsheet for projects that are in progress (a Project Gutenberg thing). On the Distributed Proofreaders board, we are adding posts with the details of books we have acquired and received clearance for. The posts are VERY hard to scan through. I want to add the books to my own "In progress" and make the list available for others to view and search. Here's the even more tricky part ... I would like to develop a macro of some sort where people can enter the information about their projects and it will be added to the searchable list ... any ideas??

Question 3 How can I make one of those floating boxes on a website ... the little box that stays in the margin as the page is scrolled down ... I have a VERY extensive list of books that I am trying to acquire for Project Gutenberg. I have colour coded them based on ones added to PG, ones I am currently working on and ones I am still looking for. I would like the colour legend to 'float' down the length of the page.
