i was watching the MARCUS and JONI LAMB fraud today as it is time for their now monthly "share-athon" what a crock.
it got me to thinking. really jesus wasnt any different.
1. his target audience were the poor 2. he threatened hell to the disobedient 3. he promised wealth in heaven if you followed his rules
marcus and joni and any other phony televangelists
1. target audience were is the poor 2. threaten good's wrath if your not sowing your "seed" of faith 3. promise blessings if you do sow a seed of faith
now i believe the christ myth is just in fact that. a regualr obscure shaker of his time and his legend was built around other cultic movements relative to his period and christianity evolved from previous religious beliefs. my question is this, any of you christians see parralels here?

Hello chaplin25, Welcome to the board. this is the first time I have see a post from you. I’m an atheist as much or more than the next guy. I think you correct with most of you points, The only thing is that I don’t think jesus “himself” ever threatened hell. I could be wrong, if I am someone correct me. but I believe that jesus never threatened anyone to hell. But all other points you have are right on the money. Have you noticed how they are pushing products on air? I seen Pat Roberson selling a health drink. Most of them sell tapes and videos. All of it tax free, that should be taxed. That is one of my new complaints now. I understand the idea of not taxing churches. But this is a business, nothing more.

I too have not seen any of your posts till now Chaplin25. Welcome to the board! I agree there is a very strong resemblance between televangelists and Jesus. Oh yes and as to if Jesus actually ever condemned some one to hell. The answer would be a yes. Jesus Frequently stated that "All those who follow me shall gain eternal life." now as we all know that would leave off a goodly portion of the world at large. If not heaven or its adjacent purgatory there is only one alternative.

im going to plug a book i read recently here The Mythmakerby Hyam Maccoby it adds an interesting twist to the jesus myth that he was really a revolutionary against Rome, but was unexpectedly killed (the crucifixion was specially used for those against Rome mind you) and then later Paul came up with a mythological Jesus. i know its off topic, but it was a really good read oh yeah if you want a sweaty holy handkerchief, i saw a tele-evange selling them, and for a little extra money he will even bless it a little more!!!! the sad part is Im not making this up

TV and religion is a con game to get your dollars. I always laugh at people who are so worried about getting into heaven, that they send money to some dope on tv as a way of helping them get there. That is just crazy.
