Just wondering how people treat you or treat you differently when they find out your atheist?? I have had people treat me like I just ate their dog or something. How about you??

I have had people who knew me suddenly change once they found out I was an atheist. I went from some nice, decent guy to someone who just punched their baby in the face. It's usually followed by such heroic feats of logic like:
"You can't do that! You just can't...you have to believe in something..."
"Why would you want to do that?"
"But you can't....you just shouldn't...."
"Does that mean you worship the devil?"
"I can't talk to you anymore."
...it's strange that one point can change their entire perception of me. Just because I don't harbor a belief in a deity like they do, it qualifies me for immediate ostracization.

I know how you feel, besides what I alreadly posted.....last week, a family friend of 11 years just found out I was atheist. The stares I got, plus the silent treatment was just weird for me. I didn't just change over night, but it seems people forget all the things you have done in the past once they find out. I wonder what she would of said if I told her Santa Clause in my god instead of her god??

I always get the look. I like it. I look out for it. What I’m talking about is right when you tell them that you are not a Christian or don’t believe in a god. It only lasts for about a second but it’s the blank look like their brain is preoccupied trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. All they can do is stand there and look. My father would not talk to me for a while when he found out. People at work tell me that they will pray for me. And how could I not believe, some think I want to go to hell, of all the stupid things. Some people avoid me altogether I guess they don’t want to catch my atheistic ways.

I always get cut short by people who just make the statement "There has to be a God" then they dont back it up.

I've experienced much of what's been mentioned above—most notably the "blank stare" of disbelief. But I've also had Christians tell me I act more "Christian" than most people they know—like they would expect less. Hey, what the hell is wrong with just being nice??
