Hello fellow heathens, I am Maverick and I am your leader. ;D I am an atheist who left theism almost 2 years ago. I was browsing the internet one day and eventually was directed to an MSN group called Atheism & Freethought. After participating in discussion at A/F, I created Atheists Anonymous and later offered my chat room as a resource to the members of A/F. As time passed on the former manager of MSN A/F stepped down and allowed me to take over the group. The forum you are now browsing is my next step in bringing together a community of atheists online. It is a message board that has long replaced the MSN Atheism & Freethought Group. Before moving to ProBoards, the Atheists Anonymous Message Board had 158 registered users. With this current board, I hope to continue offering a forum for dialog where atheists can help others understand life without god belief. If you would like to read more about my transition from theism to atheism, please read the following two essays: Taking the Road Less Traveled and Withdrawal of a Closet Atheist. Another essay I wrote, Why Anonymous? also offers some background on what has become an active atheist website. Thanks for reading. I hope you will let this community welcome you to the board by posting your own intro thread. Have a great and godless evening.

Atheists Anonymous was established in March of 2002. To date, Atheists Anonymous has been operating for 1 year and 9 months.
How exactly did I leave theism? Well, I just discontinued practicing anything religious when I stopped believing in God. It wasn't only one day in an atheist chat that changed my mind. I think it was a gradual process followed by a couple of weeks of concentrated questioning. One day after I had spent a significant amount of time reading material about atheism online, I came to the conclusion that God-belief didn't make sense.

Why not use this thread to reach that lucky 777, pieisgood? Just a note to everyone: I apologize for not being around as often as I used to. But, like ImCoco, I've been busy. Just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't forgotten about the board.
