Hello everyone, I was on the Star Trek message board and I decided on a whim that I should join an atheist message board. I'm 24 and I've been an atheist at least since I was a teenager (probably longer than that, it's just that's when I started thinking about it). I don't ever talk about it anymore because I'm sick of people's reactions (you all know what I mean). Star Trek is the only religion I need. ;D Hugs Jen

Welcome to the board, Superhappyjen. Feel free to participate in any of the ongoing threads, or start your own. Hope you enjoy it here. Star Trek is a religion now? How does it compare to "Jedi"?

Welcome, Superhappyjen. I like your whims ... good to have you here. When I look back on my childhood, I came to the understanding that I was probably always an atheist. I can't think of a time when I believed that God would help me or that there was someone up there listening to the prayer lines ... I just didn't have an understanding of what an atheist really is ... afterall, we all know what them preacher types say we are ...
Again, welcome.

Welcome to the board Superhappyjen. Yes, I know what you mean. Talking about your doubts with most people only leads to negative reactions. I hope that this message board will help fill that capacity and give you a comfortable place to talk about you non-belief.
I hope you enjoy the boards. Feel free to send me a message if there's anything you need.

I get a strange reaction from my wife's church-going friends when they find out that I'm an Atheist. When they first meet me, they consider me to be good, since I try to live with integrity and caring about all people (I'm probably a Humanist, though I need to read up more about that moniker and what it implys.) Then when they discover that I'm not a Christian, they're perplexed, since I'm more good than many of their church-going friends, husbands, etc.. They seem to feel that I must just not understand God yet. I was at one social function where I was introduced to others as "He's growing with God" by somebody who already knew I was an Atheist. I was shocked, so shocked I didn't respond to it at the time. I think that many of them believe that if I only learned more about God, I'd see the error of my ways.
I, of course, feel quite the contrary. It's because of what I've learned from the church that I choose to be an Atheist!
Hmm ... what was I getting at? Oh, I think it was this: Christians seem to believe that you can't be good unless you're also a Christian. So when they find out that you're not a Christian, they assume you must be bad in some way. I hate that!

Star Trek is the only religion I need. ;D Welcome aboard Superhappyjen, like your nik, its very positive. I'm a Star-Trek fan as well, allthough I prefer the original series more. Live long and prosper.
