Heylo. I was invited by a friend.
im not sure if im Athiest. im prob not.. there so many different terms and groups of people these days i dont know what the heck i am.
Im Catholic .. on paper. use to go to church and dread it stopped going like 7-8 years ago. last time i was in church was like 2 months ago.. also as a fluke.. was going with my dad some where and he decided to stop by a church on the way.. (like a trap!)
anyways my family isnt very religious but they consider themselves catholic.
my beliefs.. well. I really dont believe in religion. I dont believe in God or supernatural beings.. but i do wish there was a "god" or supernatural being so i would feel more comfortable with Death. (which i think is the reason alot of religions are created)
anyways. not sure if i fit in. but just wanted to share some thoughts
Adam

You're going to fit in just fine sweetie. Not everyone here's an atheist anyway. You can be agnostic, theist, or whatever. Just a bunch of people who want to discuss stuff. Hey do you think that your dad tricked you into going to church because he's afraid I'm turning you into an atheist? Hugs Jen

Welcome, adamguy!
As was mentioned, we're pretty open here. The idea is to promote communication, and we all have an equal say in getting that to happen. Just be nice to others and you'll get along fine regardless of religion.
Although this:
adamguy
is the definition of an atheist.

Welcome to the board, adamguy, and thanks to the friend who invited you.
A friend of mine (ex-Catholic atheist) once told me that the RCC counts everyone who has been baptized as a Catholic as a Catholic, even if they have left the church (apostates). So, I guess you will always be a Catholic on paper.
I agree with Yaw here ... that is all that is required to be an atheist.
I can see how you would want there to be a god... when I left the church, I went looking at other religions to see if their claimed deity was logical. I found that there was insufficient evidence in any of the religious claims (that I investigated and am still investigating) to suspend my skepticism.
As for death, it's something we all will face someday. I don't think that the believers are any more comfortable with the idea of dying than those who don't believe.
You fit in fine. As Yaw said, "Just be nice to others and you'll get along fine regardless of religion." I look forward to you sharing more thoughts. Feel free to jump into any of the discussions (or start your own topics if one doesn't already exist to address your ideas.)
Also, you may be interested in playing a game of Mafia ... we hope to have one starting up soon (we are still looking for some additional players). It is a game of logic and suspicion. And it's a lot of fun! You can check out the forum in the Special Categories section.

Pardon my late response adamguy. Welcome to the boards. adamguyTo repeat what AuntieSocial and Yaw have said, this is the description of an atheist. Regardless of your wishes or your Catholic background, if you don't believe in God or supernatural beings, you are an atheist. Welcome to the club. adamguyJust out of my own curiousity, what about death makes you uncomfortable? AuntieSocialI've heard this before and, as an ex-Catholic, I can confirm that this is true. Again, adamguy, welcome to the boards. Let me know if you need anything.
