The reason is that I dislike "intro's". In fact, this is the first tme I have ever wrote one. Usually I prefer people to learn about me from how I behave. When people post fancy stories and stuff, it always seems pretentious to me, almost like they are saying 'look at me, I want to belong'. I don't care for that.
It was at Beniah's request, and primarily because I feel he has showed some ability to recognise the contradictions inherent in Christianity, and thought it would serve some use for him to see.
There is similar reasoning behing my nick 'vertigo'. People usually judge me to be somebody inexperienced or unsure perhaps, who doesn't want to use his real name. I like it that way. So if you, as moderator, are telling me to put the story in my own thread, I may do that, but if it's all the same with you it might as well stay here.

That made me think, vertigo. It is an odd phenomenon that people don't use their real names on the net, isn't it? Especially on this message board. We know all about each others beliefs and opinions, but we don't know each others names. (except for me of course, my name really is Jen). Are we afraid evil net psychos will get us if they know our names? OR is it a matter of creating our own identity?
Maybe I should start a new thread discussing this phenomenon.

Jen, I think it is probably that they want their online identity to be seperate from their real-life one.
Online you have time to think about what you say, before yuo say it. If you want, you can put forward a completely different image of yourself. Shy people can be more forward, etc, etc.
The other reaosn I can think of is that perhaps some of us would rather have it that the people we know perhaps wouldn't know about what we do online. Perhaps it is a privacy thing, where people can discuss and question without other people knowing.
An atheistic discussion forum like this one is the perfect place for this to happen. Christians who would rather not have those around them know they are questoining their faith, for example, can participate under a pseudonym and be virtually anonymous.
In my case I would say that I use the nick 'vertigo' because I don't want what I do here to spill over into 'real life', as it were. I tell myself it is because I want to remain objective, and I try to leave all my problems and emotions behind when I participate. I guess it is like my own 'private space'.
I often wonder why it is that I don't want to share things with others. I have always been like that, what is mine is mine and nobody uses my stuff without permission. I haven't worked out what the reason behind that behaviour is. Anyway, I don't want interference, and so I use the pseudonym 'vertigo'.
My name is Neil, btw. I am not as serious as I sound. Oh, screw it. I will post an intro thread.
