Pleased to make your acquaintance...
I'm a full-time student at King's College, London. Naturally, I spend plenty of time arguing in web forums, well into the night.
I read Philosophy, and my course has a heavy emphasis on the philosophy of religion, the histories of various religious traditions and ethics. Here come the questions.
1. About 15. My parents have no strong religious convictions, so it was easy enough.
2. The good ol' Church of England. A history as bloody as it is boring.
3. My course. Absorbed all the details of many religious beliefs, then took a class on atheism and it seemed the most sensible by a mile. Feuerbach was really interesting.
4. Google, innit?

"Feuerbach was really interesting" "It is motivated by desire that imagination produces gods, projecting in them all that humans lack, transforming into full that which is felt by man to be empty." Don't know from where exactly and it went through at least two translations. What's your major and you minor? Me, half a bach of philosophy, half a minor of history and a minor of anthropology. Going into philosophy. There was a full class on atheism? "My parents have no strong religious convictions 2. The good ol' Church of England" I'm not religious, I'm Anglican

Can't tell you where it's from, but what a brilliant understanding of the human condition; I was fortunate enough to have him explained to me by a bearded man in a leather jacket. It's cool to see so many philosophers around on this board. Under the English system, we specialise straight away. No majors or minors. The official course title is Philosophy (with Religion and Ethics), so something along those lines I guess. There are whole modules on atheism. I intend to take them. You wouldn't believe the dross I could be choosing. Anglicans: My parents haven't been to church in three years. They used to get tanked on mulled wine and wander over for the Christmas carols. Indoctrination came from primary school, aged 4: "Clasp your hands and close your eyes, it's time for the Lord's prayer."

Welcome to the board Downlowtooslow. It's good to finally see another UK poster join us. (I'm not from the UK but we used to have someone else from there post here a while ago.)
It has been my understanding so far that atheism is generally more accepted in England (and other parts of Europe) than it is here in the United States. A collegiate level course in atheism is something I haven't heard of here in the States. At best, I'd expect atheism to be part of a course bundled in with other topics.

In the United States, a major is our description of specialization in an area.
Again, welcome to the board. If there's anything you need, please feel free to let me or another mod know.
