Hi ! This is my first thread i have ever attempted to write on the internet on any forum at all, the reason is because i was so intrigued with the opinions posted here. having lived most of my life in Saudi Arabia i am naturally a Muslim, and being narrow-minded and stubborn became part of my personality. My beliefs were strictly taught at school, but i came to see that even though we Muslims say we have the last and rightous faith which concludes within it all that was "true" from the past religions, hipocricy formed the better part of our society and people beleive in God just because they were taught to do so. Even as i write these lines i feel as if im commiting blasphemy or something sacriligious, I was taught not to question my faith for all that i need to know is that we are going to heaven because of what we beleive, all others shall perish in hell. But since i came to the U.S. for college i became more open-minded about issues concerning religion and spirituality, i came to accept Jews and christians and even atheists as my friends.
Ok (phew) thats a load off my mind.
Anyway concerning issues such as the big bang and the existence of God. Aside from what my religion tells me, i have always in my own logic thought about a concept introduced in a movie called Minority report-- Cause and effect , i took it as a principle when i began thinking about the start of the universe... If i shoot someone with a gun and he dies then what killed him? I killed him, i pulled the trigger....the gun itself didnt do anything.... for something to happen...someone has to make it happen.....the big bang.....how did it happen? Can anybody come up with one good logical explanation as to how it did? sure there are theories about what happened after it....but what about before? It was simple logic that led me to beleive that there is a god.... a creator who can alter and shape the universe at his will....he can create something from nothing..... I read the poll about the big bang and i was very interested in what it had to say....but sadly i couldnt find an answer as to how the big bang started...the author challenged the question but none could say anything except what happened after it....
Also, another principle i have taken is that behind every myth there is a truth....however small it is...... If you review history then you will see that Arabs were people who lived in small tribes and fought eachother constantly.... they could not unite nor pacify.... and yet when the prophet mohammad came the tribes united and became like a supertribe and later into a great civilization....how did that happen? If truly they made up a faith then how did they make it up? Where did they get the idea? Better yet how did the Jews and christians get the idea of the one god? As someone said before in the polls over 30000 gods were worshipped throughout history.
Palestine.... i don't think anyone could come up with a better example of daily genocide.... why is it that the palestinians must suffer for so long? they are Muslims, Christians, and jews arent they? they beleive in the one god and yet we do not see a sign of their independence or liberation.....is that a sign that god does not care about them? how could he not? they are native arabs that live in the holy lands of jerusalem....his divine power shouldve protected them....but that is not what we see.... it is prophecised that an Arab leader will arise one day and conquer the world and the message of Islam would spread upon all and free the palestinians....So should we wait for him? Or is it in the hands of ordinary men that palestine will be liberated? you see people question the existence of god because they see no sign of him in their lives...or that is how i understood from the polls... but the fact remains that even though god does not intervene directly in human matters he has however created the universe and he exists....whether or not we beleive in him.
I only ask these questions so that i can think more on my own and get answers that will convince me and not rely entirely on what i was taught.
