Hi, All! I'm not sure if I found you via Debate Unlimited ( p069.ezboard.com/fmememachineforumfrm3) or somewhere else. However, whenever I'm browsing now, I try to reach out in as many places as possible to other atheists who may be moving to Canada, or who are there already. I cannot live out the rest of my life in this backward-thinking, intrusive, illogical, unkind nation. I need to settle in a true democracy -- somewhere where "creation science" isn't taught in schools, where "god" isn't on the money, and where people with alternate life-styles are not treated as second-class citizens.

Yea, I would like to leave the planet also. It seems no matter where you are, religion will be there.

I cannot live out the rest of my life in this backward-thinking, intrusive, illogical, unkind nation. Welcome! Sometimes I have to remind myself what a true luxury it is to live today. To even have the opportunity to fret on such things means I am living a life that few other creatures on this planet have ever had at any time in its history. Truly this is no excuse to not strive for change and fairness for all... but rather it keeps my state of mind at ease. I never forget that nature owes me nothing, the Universe (including the Earth and myself) is too complex for me to predict 100% of the time, and the truth exists regardless of anyones ability to understand it. In the meantime, dealing with people who like to make up and later believe myths are all part of the days tasks.

While I can understand your frustration with the increasingly right leaning population, political administration, school systems etc. here at home. Is moving to Canada really the answer? Granted I love our neighbors to the north, and I visit often. But have you considered trying to enact some change here at home. I too am unhappy with the way things are going but also truly believe that much of the fault lies in apathy. If you look at the numbers its the conservatives who get out and vote and not necessarily that there are so many more of them. Not that I think you're entirely wrong but I do love my country enough to stick it out here for a while and do my best to make it better.

Sadly, this suggestion falls into the category of "been there, done that." After 36 years of living in the U.S. and trying to help bring the U.S. up to the standards of democracy which I learned to expect while growing up in Europe, now, at age 54, it's time for me to do the "american thing" and start looking out for myself a little bit. _____________________ PS: I've been away from this board for two months because I was having trouble logging on. Now that I've figured it out, I'll probably wander in more often.

Glad to have you Lady of the brach. I applaud your thinking and belive it is a good thing to broden your horizons, but lets be reasonable, there is really no need to move to an altogether different country. especialy financialy ~^!^~. In my thinking it is best to reguard majority of the population as sheep. After all they are constant followers and stick to their cast iron belifes in a God that they themselfes created with out faultering. This makes them the best followers of the world. I mean try to laugh it off, make it a private joke. That way you can walk though your daily life without getting angry or discuraged. As for finding a true democracy you wont find that, not on this planet any way. For a true democracy to work we would all have to truely have a voice like we can all speek into one void and every voice be heard by all. Unless that were to happen you wont find it. But there is hope no Democracy lasts long. It is always followed by an empire.
