Hello I wish to ask a question. For what reason is it that people want to believe in a God. It is not that I dont have an answer I just feel that it is best to have more than just the input of the voices in my head.

For what reason is it that people want to believe in a God. Welcome. Believing in God(s)... 1. Is something everyone can do, regardless of intelligence or financial status. 2. Relieves stress by accounting for all of life's mysteries. 3. Helps to justify one's success, or even better yet, another's demise.

Thank you Filter, most helpful to have another point of view. However why then may I ask if one who dose have faith in a religion get offended when a person askes a question? Furthermore why is it that people attempt to make an established religion out of a belife when it is obvious that your belives are your own and that not every one will agree?

Dragon*of*Heavon Not all people get offended. So I guess it depends on the person. One reason may be that questioning another's beliefs can be misinterpreted as a rejection of the person.
Dragon*of*Heavon Well, I suppose that if one believes that one believes THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH, then one might feel that it is one's DUTY to get others to follow the truth. It also might be a good method of population control. It's easier to justify your actions when you say that god(s) told you to do it.
Anyway, those are some plausible reasons.

I think for some its that they want so badly to believe something that they in the back of thier mind know is not true that when you question it, the threat to their dillusions is to great to bear.

... then may I ask if one who dose have faith in a religion get offended when a person askes a question? Not all are offended, but often people get offended or upset at questions when they cannot articulate an appropriate response. On the flip side, I would eventually get a little miffed too if constantly rebutted with the faith position. Furthermore why is it that people attempt to make an established religion out of a belife when it is obvious that your belives are your own and that not every one will agree? Past tense. It's already established. Circular logic now. They believe in an established religion; even though their religion was based on a belief - it's established now, so they believe in something more credible than just a belief. (You see, now it's a belief with generations of followers and loads of real estate assets!!) Why did the original people establish it? That's an anthropology question I would guess...

sorry i'm not going to quote just spout off answers you can see what they match First off- I believe it is because poeple need fear to survive. If there is no one to see wrong doing it is better for you to believe there is hence a consious as well. Secondly- "Knowledge denies Faith" that is from HHGG(hitchhikers guide to the galexy) I believe that is the answer to poeple not liking questions, knowing to much denies the ability to believe in the unknown.....I don't know if you have read that book but it has a lot of fun stuff like that Lastly A big gelated Welcome

Secondly- "Knowledge denies Faith" that is from HHGG(hitchhikers guide to the galexy) This makes me think of the objective eye of science (namely the Hubble Telescope for example) that is being closed by those who favor "faith-based" organizations. Just how many galaxies did God place in space for our amusement?
