Hi! My name is Iris and I have finally joined this message board after reading threads for several months. I became an atheist on Easter, 2004, which I think is an ironic, yet perfect anniversary. I realize that I am pretty much alone in my beliefs in my circle of friends, but I read that there are 30 million atheists/freethinkers in the USA. I'm joining because I want to be part of an atheist community and be involved in thought-provoking discussions. Oh yeah, and on Wednesday, someone said that maybe when I was older and wiser I would realize the necessity of religion and belief in God.

What they meant was that when you're older you'll begin to fear death and sell-out to religion. Hopefully not.
Welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone! I've been reading the discussions and just hope I can add intelligent comments. You all seem to say exactly what I'm thinking, but much more succinctly.

I would be extremely impressed if there was anybody on this board with over 50 posts who hasn't made a fool of themselves at least twice. Don't wory, have fun, and relax. Any violaters will be instantly and invariably punished via banning.

I would say that anyone who uses succinctly in their introduction thread is sure to add an intelligent tid-bit or two. pieisgood, speak for yourself! I have never made a fool of myself ... I only have learning experiences
