Hi Iestyn, I heard that Wales is changing its road signs to Gaelic only. That's like the French editing out English words like "hotdog"and it seems kind of backwards. It's interesting to go to China, for example, and hear the Chinese speaking to Germans and others in English. My family is Slavic, and I personally like its sound, but English is the language that is uniting the world whether we like it or not. However, I won't hold you personally entirely to blame for what may be going on in Wales. Tom

Hi Tom, nice to meet you. Nope signs are staying bilingual. Besides we dont speak Gaelic, we speak Welsh or as we call it Cymraeg. Their may be a bunch of hardliners that want that to happen but it wont.
I agree, at my university department we have a range of people from all over the world and English is the medium we use to speak to each other. Having a languge that can be used all over the world is great but I dont want that to kill off native languages as with each language that dies off we lose a way of looking at the world.
Thanks, but its not happening. Changing the signs would be illigal as Welsh and English have equal status thats protected by the law.

Thanks, Iestyn. Glad to hear it. Now I have to figure out who laid that misinformation on me recently. I visited Wales a few years ago and really enjoyed the scenery and the people. I'm not poor, but visiting the charity shops and picking up a few old belts and hats as souvenirs was fun, too. Tom

Just Cardiff and a little of the south coast. I'd love to see the whole country.
