I agree wiht you Demon, it is a waste of a theists time to attempt to convert an atheist. Just as it is a waste of the atheists time to try and convert the theist.
The thing is, any evidence you give me will be twisted by my religious bias, and any information i give you will be twisted by yours. All we can do is wait and see who is right, and honestly, i hope its you sometimes. Maybe then i will have never have to deal with the things in life i wish i hadn't done.

It is not a waste of time I have turned 3 people away from god. I am happy to say. Past that anything you have done isn’t any worse than what anyone else has done. Bottom line is get over it and go on with life. Be happy, as far as anyone can say this is the only time we get BE HAPPY.

*puts on her mod hat* Okay, guys ... we need to be civil and play nice. We don't always agree. That's a fact of life. Theists don't always agree with other theists, and atheists don't always agree with other atheists. That is the beauty of being individuals. We all have to be careful of using generalizations. We are all special ... (do you feel the warm and fuzzies yet? If not, start feeling them now, cuz that's just about the extent of sugar I can muster up at the moment!)
The bottom line is this ... RESPECT *breaks into a horrible rendition of an old Aretha Franklin classic*. It isn't necessary for you to agree with an individual's opinion, belief, lack of belief, faith, lack of faith, &c. Whay IS necessary, however, is that you treat the individuals on this board with respect.
Someone has obviously found reason to consider us hostile (although their reasons have yet to be shared). I wish they would expand on their criticism, but I'm not holding my breath... in the meantime, we should ALL consider what we say, and how it will be received.
I'm not suggesting censorship, in any way, shape or form ... so don't go there with me ... I'm only suggesting that we are using a limited form of communication. As a text only format, we need to ensure that what we are typing conveys the message we are trying to get across. I suggest that a simple read-through (with the preview button). If you are feeling particularly emotional about a particular topic, take a few minutes to digest the post before responding. I will sometimes go and make myself a coffee (or something) before I respond to something that I know is touching me personally.
I hope I am not over-stepping my bounds, but I think that Maverick and Yaw will agree with me here. This board is not intended to be an Us v. Them environment. There is enough of that in life already without coming on-line to experience more of the same. In many instances, we are dealing with controversial topics, or topics that hit close to home for some. Try to consider how the other people feel about a topic when you reply. Everyone is welcome here. We want to keep it so that everyone feels welcome here. These are not just words that we say. Maverick, the Mods and many of the members truely want to hear other people's viewpoints. That is one of the things that, in my opinion, makes this board a special place.

I obviously cant speak for everyone. But if I seem hostile its truly because as of late for me 1)I have been surrounded by a seemingly groing contingent of aggressive christians. 2) I live in a country in which we have separation of church and state and yet I am disinfranchised by an evangelical christian president who places himself as a prophet of God, and essentially tells us that all this stuff he's doing that I don't agree with is God's work. So forgive me for feeling a little put upon. Debate is welcome and I dont hate all Christians. To each his own, I just wish some christians would grant me right to believe what I believe and stop trying to convert me.

I worry about the future of our country with the way the country seems to be gradually leaning right. Republicans gained in both the house and senate in nov. Thats no good, I think its mostly due to the effective campaign of fear that the Bush admin. has placed upon the people.

i stumbled accross this board, and after reading some of the threads i felt sick. You bash so many things christian, say bitter, sarcastic remarks and carry on. half of the responses ive seen to christian comments are immature, close minded statements. If you wanted to truely debate a topic, why not respond with questions that make people really think crtically. I came to the board hoping for good discussions, boy was I wrong. I dont disslike atheists, and i hope you like dont disslike me. It just seems like there is some hostile people on this board. I kinda stumbled across these boards to.These people are unhappy confused people with bad childhoods. They simply do not know any better.
