I don't think anyone should be baptized unless they decide for themselves that they want to be part of a certain religion. I also think that you should have to be at least 18 years of age before you are able to be baptized, because young children usually don't have enough knowledge and experience to make that sort of decision.
So I guess I would have to agree with you and say it's wrong.

As far as most small kids know, they're just being dunked in water. Others probably do it just cause mom and dad want them to. It is mere ceremony and symbolism to any extent. It reminds me of something Lao Tzu wrote centuries ago that they might want to ponder...he wrote "ceremony is the merest husk of faith".

I have to go with wrong here. First of all if the child is not even old enough to know what its all about its pointless. Secondly I believe religion is a personal choice and the child should be old enough to make that choice for themselves.

Interesting topic. I was baptized as a baby by my grandfather who was a Minister. I really don't think any harm came from it. I certainly don't remember it, and hey I grew up to be atheist. Also I know it probably meant a lot to my grand- dad. No harm done. However, if a baptism is put off for whatever reason and then brought up again when the child is older and able to make rational decisions then it should not be forced on that child. The same goes for religion in general.

I don't think children should be baptised when they are children because they don't know what the means.

Baptism for infants is fairly harmless. It's just really a way for the parents to fit in to small town culture, but... Batism, that is just not acceptable!! Seriously, when I was going to church it seemed 90% of the people involved with baptisms and marriages were just going through the motions so to speak. Maybe there was a parent or grandparent who was into it, but the rest were - "are we supposed to stand here?"

Yep im sorry i did mis spell it. Any who yes Hilly your correct physicly no harm can come of a simple ritual but with the catholic religion as I was baptised once done its done and as my mother likes to tell me every so often once catholic your are catholic and i dont think that any one should be just lumped into a religion like that.

I am a theist, but I dont beleive in infant baptism, it doesnt match what the Bible says. when the young adult knows and understands( age may very depending on maturity) and wants to be baptised then that is when it should be done, anything else is meaningless ritual.

Are you saying ritual is meaningless? Surely you don't mean that.
