I was wondering...if you were to get into a debate with a christain about the existence of God and all that stuff what would be some good points to bring up to him such as faults in the idea
Thank you

all you need to do is read some posts that is here. many good contradictions have been brought up about the bible. but some don't see them as such. does not mean that they are not.

Tell him to read the Bible. Also a basic philosophy text will address the main and popular arguments utilized.

Have them prove it to you. If you can convince them that the burden of proof is on the believer (not too hard to do), surprisingly few christians are armed with enough to even start up an argument that can't be stricken down. Things tend to descend into "You just have to have faith", and they tend to leave you alone after that.

Matter precedes mind. Without matter there can be no mind. Rocks do not have brain tissue and central nervous systems. This is how we know they don't have minds. So how can a being with no corporeal substance have a mind? This argument does not work on Mormons, who believe that god does have a flesh and bone body. (With no blood in it.)

read any thread on this forum area and you will find some. Plus you could read the bible and take notes on what is contridicting. Like when it says "a day" in genisis it doesn't mean a literal day, in hebrew the word for day could be translated in to "a period of time" any period of time say...a few billion years? Sorry had to rant a little....but yeh any logic that is applied ca ndebate the illogical theist

I think you need to ask yourself the question of why you became an atheist, and if you're not an atheist, agnostic... And if you're neither of those, I ran out of "if's". Hahaha.
Anyway, in truth, you really do need to ask yourself why you decided not to believe in god. Was there something that jumped out at you?
Also, let theists know that simple faith doesn't quite cut it with proof. I agree with an earlier post from... I can't remember, but the person stated that theists normally come up with "You just have to have faith" as their best kind of proof or argument. And of course, open the Bible and just start reading a couple of passages. You'll realize how ridiculous it is - and how contradictory. Plus, if you research history in England, you will find that monarchs used religion to claim rule over gullible people.
Here's what I say: If monarchs had fake power from god to rule, then surely, god has got to be fake. Why would people starve and suffer if he were real? And if I do find out a god exists, then I swear to everybody and his brother that god would get more than a word from me. But beside talking about my violent tendencies toward any religious garbage... lol...
My basic thought is this, I agree with an earlier post: Tell them to read the freaking "Holy Book". (Chances are you've probably read more than him/her.)
Well, hope this helped a little. ;D
