Justice Sunday When: Sunday April 24, 2005 Time: 7:00 - 8:30 PM (ET)
Dominionist and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will be speaking to church congregations around the country tomorrow in an attempt to change the 200 year old Senate filibuster tactic. This program will be closed circuited and organized by the Family Research Council; a far right Christian group. Frist has labeled this crusade as the "nuclear option". “Justice Sunday” will be aired from the East Campus of Highview Baptist Church in Louisville Kentucky, and will also feature other halo-heads like James Dobson, Dr. Al Mohler, and Chuck Colson who are campaigning to impeach federal judges whose rulings they disagree with. This is a desperate move by dominionists to infiltrate the judicial system and reverse previous rulings that undermine their ideology. 60 votes are required to stop a filibuster and they only have 55, which is all of the conservative votes. They can not get a measly 5 votes from democrats. So now they want to change the rules in their favor. Frist’s plan is to change the 60 vote rule to 51. If he succeeds, the Christians will have complete and unchallengable control of our Government. The similcast will be streamed on-line here: www.lightonthehill.tv/justice.html , but you may have to sign up for it. You can try to use my confirmation number which is 666963 The event code is: SM01 I also heard rumors that Fox news channel will be broadcasting it.

While I'm not sure I agree with the tactic of fillibustering, seeing that voting is the senate's responsibility but make no mistake it does irritate me that some of these ultra conservative judges keep getting appointed, and that the churches seem to work so hard to nose thier way into the goings on of american government.

And that's getting much worse. I know some Christian folks who have switched churches as politics nosed in. Ironic that the powers that be are so against theocratic governments across the globe, yet many lawmakers (including President Dumbass) are striving for just that.

This fusion of church and state is really getting exasperating. On "Justice Sunday," groups protested, not outside our Senator's house or office, but outside of his wife's business. They had signs calling him un-Christian and other things that I can't remember at the moment. I saw it on the news, but I wish I had seen them as they were protesting so I could've walked in and given his wife some business.
As I understand, all of this was orchestrated by Focus on the Family. They used to concentrate on child and family psychology and in recent years have become more political than anything else. Grrrr...Sorry to vent; just had to get this off my chest.

Grrrr...Sorry to vent; just had to get this off my chest. Focus on the Family in general (and their intensely self-righteous leader “Dr.” James Dobson in particular) feels they have a clear mandate to force Christian policy into politics after W’s second-term election. Sadly, the current group of monkeys in power doesn’t practice what they preach. That said, there are some hardcore Christians who claim Focus on the Family is killing Christianity. Check out www.elroy.net/ehr/focus.html . There’s also some articulate thoughts on abortion and other zealots as well.

Conservatives are trying to portray this as a partisan issue of the godless Democrats’ vs. Christian Republicans. Last year the senate approved 214 of Bush’s judicial appointments despite the fact that most of these people were religious. Now they are acting like spoiled children because the democrats don’t want 10 who have extreme religious views and are definitely going to abuse their power to benefit their personal crusade. Of course Bush wants Christians on the bench but more importantly he needs Christians with biased views that will help him achieve his religious agendas. Bush says he doesn’t approve of activist Judges while trying to appoint his kind of activist Judges. Hypocrite! Imagine having California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown on the U.S. Supreme Court. She believes the Bill of Rights is binding on the states and that the legal doctrine of “incorporation,” is invalid. With this extreme view, states would be allowed to establish official religions and impose them on its citizens. This is why filibusters are necessary. It is to prevent extremes. What the republicans are really trying to do is create a type of gag rule for the U.S. Senate (as Sen. Byrd pointed out). It’s pretty scary to think that all the crazy ideas coming from the House of Representatives might finally get approvals from the Senate without a challenge. They should have called this event "Just Us Sunday".

Al Gore yesterday at an event organized by MoveOn.org: "They even claim that those of us who disagree with their point of view are waging war against 'people of faith. How dare they?†"Long before our founders met in Philadelphia, their forebears first came to these shores to escape oppression at the hands of despots in the old world who mixed religion with politics and claimed dominion over both their pocketbooks and their souls. This aggressive new strain of right-wing religious zealotry is actually a throw-back to the intolerance that led to the creation of America in the first place." "... our laws are human creations that derive their moral authority from our consent to their enactment." In contrast, religious zealots want to subordinate the importance of the rule of law to their ideological fervor." "When women were given the right to vote, was that God's work or humans'? "If they were to achieve their ambition - and exercise the power they seek - America would face the twin dangers of an economic blueprint that eliminated most all of the safeguards and protections established for middle class families throughout the 20th century and a complete revision of the historic insulation of the rule of law from sectarian dogma." "The Senate has confirmed 205 or over 95 percent of President Bush's nominees. Democrats have held up only 10 nominees, less than 5 percent. Compare that with the 60 Clinton nominees who were blocked by Republican obstruction between 1995 and 2000." "When President Clinton left office; there were more than 100 vacant judgeships, largely due to Republican obstructionist tactics. Ironically, near the end of the Clinton/Gore administration, the Republican chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said: 'There is no vacancy crisis and a little perspective clearly belies the assertion that 103 vacancies represent a systemic crisis.' "Comically, soon after President Bush took office, when the number of vacancies had already been reduced, the same Republican committee chairman sounded a shrill alarm. Because of the outstanding vacancies, he said, 'We're reaching a crisis in our federal courts.' "Now the number of vacancies is lower than it has been in many years: 47 vacancies out of 877 judgeships - and for the majority of those vacancies, the President has not even sent a nominee to the Senate." Right on Al! Hmm, I thought conservatives worshiped that idol called the 10 commandments but yet every time they openeth their mouths they bare false witness.
America needs to wake up. You got to love this commercial: www.moveonpac.org/rampage-QT.html

Here is just a glimpse of where we are headed: A church in North Carolina called the "East Waynesville Baptist Church" (136 Woodland Dr. Waynesville NC 28786 ) has kicked out all its members who are Democrats unless they repent and convert to Republicans. Forty members left the church in protest. Here is a Video News Clip: www.atheisteye.com/ChurchDemsKickedOut.html Though this is not illegal, I think their tax free privilege should be revoked.

Remember, god talks to bush and tells him when to go to war and screw poor people out of their homes by cancelling programs that help them.
