I tried that once. I told a Roman Catholic that Mary isn't a virgin, they had children after the fact. "No", I was told (disapprovingly). I left it.

That's usually for the best...as with many aspects of religion and some other groups, its adherents usually see any criticism of any part of it as a personal attack on them and their beliefs...it gets touchy really quickly.

Why is that? I leap at the opportunity to help people better understand my point of view on things.

Questioning and doubt is waivering faith (this is bad)...faith is the central item to the whole system of belief, right up there with the personal relationship with christ for protestants.

I certainly agree that opinions should be shared, but they don't want your help. They don't want to understand, because they 'believe'. They have to see the value in consensus for any explanation to be worthwhile.

And BTW, Squid, dodos don't own MLB teams, or get elected Pres... *woosh* - right over my head. I apologize but I'm not sure what you're talking about. This discussion was a while back.

This is an unfortunate, all to real, situation that many "believers" do not understand the word believe, by definition, means opinion.
As far as Bush being dumb... don't take too much stock in that thought. I've been following politics since I was about fourteen because my parents were "fat cats" and were very politically involved. Bush is a politician first and foremost do not think for one second that he's doing this out of idiocy. He's doing this because over 75% of Americans are believers in the Bible. I don't think he is a political genius by any measure; I was pissed when Bush 41 was nominated, talk about politically inept, and his son is not much better.
Now, that's funny!
