Here's a poem I wrote some time ago:
America Betrayed!
America has been betrayed By the politician's corporate greed, And by a President, who's only creed Is "Get the oil! No need for trade, "We want control, so let's invade!" The neo-cons' agenda's weighed In the moral balance, and found wanting, Like the Nazis, who still are haunting The concience of a world decayed, A world where caring's been mislaid. For long the corporations preyed On the cheapest labour they could find, And "Profit Only!" they've enshrined, While the ones who work are underpaid, Who slave away with pen or spade. The politicians masquerade As pious saviours, while they steal The nation's sweat, and then conceal The avarice of their charade, While responsibility they evade. But now the truth has been displayed, Though we've just begun to recognize The wolves who long were in disguise; We're not just sheep, we're not afraid, And we WILL NOT let our country fade!

That is a great poem, Unbeliever. Whenever I see a Bush/Cheney '04 bumper sticker, I tend to think the vehicle's owner to be a war profiteer. Yes, it is a sign of ignorance and arrogance for me to stereotype in such a way. However, since that fateful day in November 2000, I have watched this country's economy disintegrate to the point of recession. Meanwhile, thousands of soldiers have either died or been physically and/or psychologically scarred for life...in a war that shows no sign of ending nor shows no indication of success. All the above-mentioned problems are the result of a President who thinks it's a good idea to rely on prayer to a "higher power" which is really nothing more than his own thoughts being voted on by his own thoughts. And we all know how good those thoughts tend to be. Yes, this country is on the brink of fading away. Though we'd like to wish otherwise, it is the truth as long as morons are in control of weapons of mass destruction. And, yes, that includes weapons controlled by our own military. I'd like to think the worst is over but...at the rate things are going, we'll probably see a Mel Gibson/Tom Cruise ticket, in November '08.

You guys keep busting me up with this. George Bush's first concern, because he is a politician, is appealing to as many Americans as he possilby can. They rarely say crap like that because they believe what they are saying. He says that to appeal to the majority. Don't buy it. As far as the war in Iraq goes, I've stated this before, Saddam should have not played games with the UN inspectors. I have seen documentation that trucks pulled up to the sites, were loaded up and then drove off minutes before the inspectors arrived. The amount of material that is being looked for would fit in a two car garage; this is enough to kill billions! We know he had them, because he USED them. I didn't look for multiple articles but here's one about them finding them: www.breitbart.com/news/2006/06/22/060622055545.07o4imol.htmlHere is one talking about him using them on the Kurds: www.phrusa.org/research/chemical_weapons/chemiraqgas2.htmlI am not a big follower of wars, despite all the history I've studied. War does serve a purpose, unfortunately, it is a tool to remove a "cancer" on the global society. It will always be used.

Thanks, GodsAreUs. It seems like a good place to discuss some juicy stuff.
Yes, snafui, I agree on the issue of Saddam's hide-and-seek bull****. I never believed that sending U. N. inspectors was going to be anything but laughable. Insane Hussein knew exactly how to deal with them.
It's just horribly unfortunate that any group with an arsenal feels compelled to use it. A sort-of California governor once said the line, "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves." John Connor responded, "Humans, you mean?"
Yeah, nice fate we humans like to make, huh?

Hi from Oz
Shortly before the invasion of Iraq (when it was imminent) there was a letter from an American in one of our major dailys saying - but you didn't experience the horror of 9/11.
But Saddam had nothing to do with that - was the obvious reply - but everyone appeared to be deaf.
The recent congressional elections provide some hope - but is it enough?
