I'm Canadian and in Canada we don't kill criminals. Killing people is so mean!
But seriously I'm against it. It's kind of a two wrongs don't make a right thing. Should we add more bloodshed on top of what the accused has already done. And what if he's wrongfully convicted? It happens. Sure, sending an innocent man to jail is bad anyway, but killing him? If he was in jail you can let him out, maybe give him some monetary compensation for his time and the damage to his reputation. You can't undo death.
And even the guilty have rights. Crimes that are so bad they require the death penalty are usually so bad they can't be commited by a sane person (yes, I realize they are not insane according to the law). I think there should be more concentration on rehabilitation. It's costly, and in many cases may be impossible, but usually the right thing to do isn't the easiest thing to do.
Canada Rules!

A far east saying contributed to Taoism is the following:
All life is precious. Avoid rather than harm; harm rather than maim; maim rather than kill. It is easy to take a life but impossible to replace one.
With this philosophy I've always considered that you do not ever know what a person will or won't accomplish with the rest of their life whether they are a criminal or not. To kill a person for their actions may be a just punishment for certain crimes but is a loss of life none the less. There have been men that have contributed to society from prison; won't others do the same?
