Yes, it's difficult already. It never feels like a birthday because people spend all of their money on Christmas so I rarely get presents. Sometimes I wish my birthday were in July.
Also I wouldn't count on people to not be discriminatory.

Yes, December 25 was originally the Roman holiday of Saturnalia. Apparently Jesus was born some time in the autumn (September). According to my research it was april around 12th to 20th 06BC. But i could be wrong. it's the arian thingy you see still more information would be well worth a look. Anyhow can't we have our holiday some place that is inbetween a couple of holidays that allready exist ? Modified to correct quote tags

If anyone agrees on a certain day, would anyone really try to make it into a holiday? Would it be a holiday only for atheists or for everyone? I think it should be for everyone so we wouldn't be easily discriminated against. Like if you tell your boss that you can get off from work because it's an atheist holiday, he might give you a hard time. Know what I mean?

I think it would be an atheist thing only, just like other religions get special holidays that they are allowed to take off. And your boss can't give you a good time if it is an actual holiday not just a wanna be.

we all should just start a holiday and set a date and spread it around.

Anybody here hear of Darwin Day? www.darwinday.orgFeb. 12th, coming up shortly. A holiday celebrating science and reason. (Usually inviting someone knowledgeable to talk about something interesting, followed by food and socializing, maybe some partying.) I don't think it should be a 'day off' kind of holiday, just a good excuse to have an evening celebration of some things that don't often get celebrated. About getting days off work, I highly suggest you sit down with your boss. Point out that you don't expect to get the standard religious holidays, any of them, and that you'll work just as normal for those days. In return, try to argue that sometimes you just need a day or two off to relax. Its been shown and business leaders are recognizing that the more relaxed and happy you are in your job, the more efficiently you work (because you tend to take more pride in your work, among other reasons). Besides, it usually works out better for everyone if your holidays are at different times from everyone elses'.

Thank you for your flattery, nonbeliever. I have some experience in organizing Darwin Day events, so if anybody is interested is having their own celebration, I'll be glad to discuss it.

Interesting. I didn't even know Darwin Day existed. I need to find more about it when I have time.

Wow, they have atheist parties at SCHOOL? They only do a Christian club at my school... must have a pretty large atheist community.
But heck, any excuse for a party works for me ;D

Why not on the same day as Xmas? Unless you're trying to score an EXTRA holiday! LOL
