Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind
This is a series of Fantasy books by Terry Goodkind that I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of the genre. To date, the series is comprised of 8 books (I have read the first seven) and follows the trials and tribulations of Richard, an unlikely hero, wizard-in-denial, in his fight against two distinct forces of evil.
What I found most interesting in the series (though I am a fan of Fantasy novels to begin with) is Goodkind’s veiled commentary on religious and political topics. In the second book, Richard is smuggled across a vast wasteland to a training center for young wizards run by an order of sisters called The Sisters of Light. Hidden within the order are a group of women who worship the darkness. Through dark blood rituals, they seek eternal life.
The books are long, on average 900 pages a piece, but the story is fast paced and the characters are likeable, especially Richard Cypher, Kahlan (the Mother Confessor) and the old grizzled wizard named Zedd.
The books in the series, thus far, are as follows:
Wizard’s First Rule – ISBN: 0-812-54805-1
Stone of Tears – ISBN: 0-812-54809-4
Blood of the Fold – ISBN: 0-812-55147-8
