Want to know how I became atheist?
easy.
I just read (quite carefully, though, till I REALLY understood the book)
Richard Dawkin's "The Blind WatchMaker"
It's about how evolution factually and actually happened.
If people would just use their Brains a bit more
carefully (instead of just using their feelings, like theists), then it might be easier to diminish the power of ignorance, and religion.
But then some people might say: Where would we go for comfort and meaning in life, without religion?
I think that's why religion is going to be with us for a long long time, despite overwhelming proof of it being just hogwash!
But let's just think about something for a moment: have any of you ever thought about how absolutely ABSURD the "Christ Dying on the Cross" Myth really is? Let's think a moment about that:
We have this God. He's omnipotent, he can do and/or undo whatever he likes, even destroy the universe.
And he's got ONLY ONE SON. And what does he do with that only son? lets him die an atrocious death, with horrible suffering, without interventing to help him or save him!?!?! What kind of a Dad is that? and for whom does He let him die? for US?? for us and our world, that little insignificant little microscopic speck of dust in his infinite (created) universe!! Does that make any sense to you?
It doesn't make any sense to me! Actually, it just makes me marvel at the way we are: We really think that we're Big Shots and super important, don't we? Just think! God Almighty let his ONLY son die and suffer for US! wow how important special incredibly precious we all are...huh huh...this stuff sounds just like in the middle ages, when men thought the whole universe centered around our planet, centered around OURSELVES.
Cheers
