I live in South Carolina, the belt buckle of the bible belt, and realize that people are very adamant about their beliefs here, but I was shocked in my english class. First.. teachers aren't supposed to discuss their beliefs, and second, certainly aren't supposed to insult others, but mine did both. "I certainly hope people can tell I am Christian just from the way I act.".. by implication, this means that she thinks nonchristians act differently.. that good morals and values are reserved for that one religion, to make matters worse, I was sent out of the class for saying "How dare you say that christians and nonchristians act differently" the adminstration dropped it realizing what a hot topic it could become, but I am still very much outraged. I just want some feedback on others and religion in school, and how they deal with it.

It sounds as if that statement was a simple product of her own ignorance and swallowing some evangelical elitist propaganda. If her statement were valid, people wouldn't automatically assume I'm a "good Christian" because I'm a "nice guy". I tell them I'm an atheist and somehow I'm automatically demonized, yet my actions do not change. Her argument is refuted by common sense.

The argument that a christian and a non christian act differently is not valid. The point is that people are all different. Preists molesting children is a good example. of this.
