I try to use the most useful definition. I don't see appeals to authority as having weight a priori.

Lately I'm recognising this, and wondering if we can change it.

not really because once you do, then you become the authority that someone else wants to change

Good luck, because you'll need it. I have expended all the patience I have for unbelievers... and for those who are still "searching", my prayers still go up to the Living God for you. But for the rest of you, who say there is no God, and taunt and ridicule those who do believe in God... I laugh at you and rejoice in your coming destruction. Because, as you already know, there is a God, and his judgement will be upon you. Now, I know, it's only by the grace of God I am saved, and will see Him in glory, but my human side still feels the frustration and disgust with those of you who take God's invitation of love and peace and toss it away like garbage. The irony is, you unbelievers DO KNOW God exists. Instead you choose to close your eyes, simply making you part of all that is evil. There are two sides, good and evil, light and dark... and those who don't believe (you know who you are) belong to the evil... belong to the dark. And I rejoice, because you will be destroyed. Laugh it up unbelievers, your destruction is at hand. Hey, at least this one's literate! What a relief - I get so tired of having to decode the garble that passes for the written word among most Christians of my acquaintance that it's a pleasure to read something that has correct spelling and punctuation. As for his "message", I don't see how a benevolent diety could punish anyone for not believing things that are patently absurd. If such a God as the one described in the Bible did actually exist, it would be necessary to kill it. It might be a real challenge, though, given his supposed omnipotence, but what else is there to do for eterntiy?

So, if even your saviour doesn't judge us for not believing, why should you?

But for the rest of you, who say there is no God, and taunt and ridicule those who do believe in God... I laugh at you and rejoice in your coming destruction. Thou shalt do to others as you would have them do unto you. You can't tell us not to "taunt or ridulce", which i have never done in my life, and then go right ahead and call us basically evil that will die. OKay then why don't you leave the judging to him and stop wasting yourtime cause all you are doing is look bigoted and making us want to debate you not repent I never got an invitation if god has such an invitation of "love and peace" why on earth would he allow poeple to be abused, or raped, or killed in war. Tell me that because even those who do believe suffer such tregidies(sp?) I can't close my eyes to something that can not be seen, perhaps it is you then that close your eyes to the rel world and only see the blanket of mistrust that you cover your self with because you rather not face the truth that everything dies alone. If we will be destroyed anyways then why waste your breathe trying to judge us or convert us? and if we disguist you so why would you want to convert us and have you join you, or are you simply stateing all this and not offering an alternative. BTW that would be four sides because not all evil is dark and not all good is light, there are good poeple that do dark things and evil poeple that can do good things who are you to decide which is which? I dislike poeple who push their religion on me and only see thier "light" perhaps you were saved but what from? You just converted to religion cause you were a lowly person and someone scared you into thinking about the after life most likly after a near-death expierence or some one close to you dieing. Because no one that truly embraces god and has for no selfish intent talks so pessimistically they tell poepls that you should repent and join the chucrch of god now. Not that it's to late for you "scum"

First, so much for the patience of Job that you should be emulating. This is a typical religious zealot's attitude you can find in all religions around the world and throughout the ages. This is a very intolerant view that is destructive to personal mental health (not to mention the innocent lives lost to its eventual actions upon beliefs). It is this attitude that gives some people permission to blow up abortion clinics and fly airplanes into buildings to make them colapse. Your looking forward to the destruction of those that do not believe as you do is a disheartening example of intolerance from ignorance. There was a time that it was a scientific fact that the Sun revolved around the Earth, this was proven untrue and yet some were condemned for this. Now you wish to continue this parade of ignorance by ignoring modern scholarship's discoveries on religious writings like the Bible: Consider that there was argument at the Council of Nicea on the divinity of Jesus; in other words some did not consider Him to be God, the ones that did believe won by a vote (so much for the guidance by the Holy Spirit). Then when the Canon was agreed upon at several different councils they used rules* to determine if a certain writing should be kept in the Bible. A great deal of scripture violates these rules time and again. I believe it is time that you actually listen to what some of us are saying on this board and think for yourself. Don't repeat outdated dogma that has been passed down for millennia as an excuse to kill/murder those that are different than yourself (or in your specific case, look forward to their destruction). * www.coptic.net/articles/TheStoryOfTheBible.txt

SimpleObservation,
I myself am a Bible-believing Christian, but I take issue with your post, which is not an accurate representation of Christianity. Christians are commanded to love non-Christians, and not to "rejoice in their coming destruction." God himself said "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from their ways and live" (Ezekiel 33). God's followers are told to "love your neighbor as yourself", which means that one should be concerned for the well-being of others as much as his/her own. Someone who does not love others does not know God, according to Christianity (I John 4:8).
