only reading first post have to say I, myself have debated this point before and I classify my self as the relgion of atheism...because religion is a belief system...commonly with a belief in a higher diety...but is not required to have such a thing. So I say yes, and have said that for some time now.

Yes it is, Aren't atheist under the common belief of that lack of god? Wether it's a positive or a negative it's still a belief regardless.

Lack of belief is not belief. Atheism is no belief in God, not belief in no God per sé. The supernatural is irrelevant. God's existence/non-existence, whichever it is, should in no way compel us to live our lives differently.
I would like to say more, but don't know what to say.

If we consider religion as a belief system which subordinates its adherents to a god, then we would have to say that atheism is indeed a religion. Atheists believe in themselves. They trust in their senses and their intellect for truth. They may even have read the 'bibles' of other atheists and have been converted to their position. They are therefore to themselves god. By rendering a final position on the non-existence of all other gods they subordinate themselves to themselves. They trust in themselves.

Pilgrim I think you misunderstand the meaning of a God. In Most cases you would find that a God is consistent of a being in which has had some hand in the construct of either the world or the universe. As I'm sure that no one on this board is as deluded by delusions of grandeur to believe that they created a universe or a world. Just for those who would raise the point of imagination I will point out that Imagination though a form of creative expression is not a form of actual creation as it actually takes form in the physical world. Therefore the idea of humanity as a hole or any human for that matter being a God is rather inconsistent with the actual term. ~If I am mistaken and some one here has actually made a universe or a world do tell me and I will retract my argument~

Your definition could be used to fit anyone and therefore does nothing to further any progress on the matter.

A god is by definition supernatural.

There is essentially one main difference between an atheist and a non-atheist. The non-atheist believes in a higher authority other than himself; the atheist believes in an authority no higher than himself.

The correct statement is: "the atheist believes in no authority higher than himself". You are the author of your actions. Choices are yours to make. Don't spin this as a religion, it is a simple fact.

The correct statement is: "the atheist believes in no authority higher than himself". You are the author of your actions. Choices are yours to make. Don't spin this as a religion, it is a simple fact. The atheist will recognize the arguments of other athiests as authoritative. This other atheist is "an authority" . There were many atheists who recognized the authority of Stalin! God also makes choices in accordance to His will. Submission to an authority is a matter of religion whether yourself or God.

Oh right, I see. You are positing a herd-mentality to atheists. Why?
